RICHARD NIXON AND LISA
FRINK WIN IRON APE
Richard Nixon, 40, of Coconut Creek, posted an impressive 16 minute margin of victory and takes the inaugural Iron Ape Triathlon in 4:33:14. Ian Darrah, 37, of Coconut Grove, was the runner up in 4:56:26, while Pedro Guevara, 32, of Miami, rounded out the top 3 with a time of 4:56:26. The June heat and humidity, while better than it could have been, definitely took its toll on the competitors as John Macedo, 39, of Clearwater, was the only other finisher to break the 5 hour mark.
On the Women's side, Lisa Frink, 43, of Fort Lauderdale, took the win with a time of 5:14:03, just edging out Lorrie Beck, 49, of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, who finished in 5:16:20. Maria Carstens, 33, of Miami, rounded out the top 3 with a 5:31:35 finishing time.
ANTON VAN ZYL AND JENNY GARCIA TAKE THE IRON MONKEY
Anton Van Zyl, 32, of Fort Lauderdale, took the win in the Iron Monkey International Distance Triathlon in 1:51:26 and remains undefeated in Multirace.com events. Anton's time shattered the existing course record by 7 minutes and 28 seconds. This is despite the June heat & humidity that kept all of the 1/2 Iron course records far from being broken. His toughest test is still ahead at the 15th Annual July 4th Duathlon that will feature the most stacked field ever seen at a Multirace.com event. 25 year-old South American professional triathlete, Ramiro Osorio, came in second in 1:54:26, while Clay Wilson, 45, of Coral Gables, rounded out the top 3 with a time of 1:57:04.
On the Women's side, Jenny Garcia, 35, of Plantation, was dominant! Her winning time of 2:07:56 was 9 minutes better than the runner up female finisher and was good enough to propel her into the series leader position. Jenny also set the new course record. Kerry Allen, 24, of Miami, finished second in 2:16:55, while Jessica Box, 23, of Pensacola, rounded out the top 3 in 2:18:26. Click here for complete story...
NIXON IMPRESSIVE ONCE AGAIN IN “IRON APE” ˝
IRON WIN AT METRO ZOO
By TJ Cesarz
It wasn’t the typical, “Chamber of Commerce,” sunny Florida day, but in a way, the weather that greeted the hundreds of athletes who descended upon Miami’s Metro Zoo for the Iron Ape ˝ Ironman and Iron Monkey International Distance races proved perfect.
Cooler
temperatures and overcast skies provided welcome relief to the triathletes who
were faced with daunting tasks no matter how you looked at it. Those competing in
the ˝ Ironman were looking at 70.4 miles of intense exercise before getting to
the finish line, while International racers were faced with almost 32 miles of
swimming, biking and running before their day was through.
Here’s a look
at how things went at the June 5th Iron Ape ˝
Ironman Tri. Click here for complete story...
