* Please note that you can only be registered under one of the categories below. For example, you cannot register for Clydesdale and age group at the same time. Participants must select their category when they register. Changes cannot be made to categories once the race starts. It would not be fair to other participants if we let people change groups once the results have been posted and they had a chance to see in which category would result in a higher standing.

Age Group Category:
Age groups for both male and female start at 10-14 and go in 5 year increments to 80+.  (10-14, 15-19, 20-24, ...., 70-74, 75-79, 80+)  By USAT rules, athletes' age groups are determined by their age on December 31st of that year.  You age up, not down.  This is so that you don't change age groups in the middle of the year.

Clydesdale & Athena Category:
Clydesdale (Men over 200 pounds), Athena (Women over 150 pounds)

Fat Tire Category:
This category is for those competing in on bikes with a tire width of at least 1.5 inches and have no aero bars (i.e. Mountain Bikes).  This category is intended for beginners who have not yet made the investment in a good road or triathlon bike.  It contains Male Fat Tire and Female Fat Tire categories.

Relay Category (2 or 3 person teams):
Relay

First Timers:

There is no category specifically for First Timers, however all First Timers should attend our pre-race clinic the day before each race at noon.  There will be more time for questions and the opportunity to pre-ride the course.  Once you cross the finish line the following day, you will receive a medal officially declaring you a DUATHLETE!

Awards:

Awards are given 5 deep in all categories. Special awards will be given to the Top 3 Overall Males, Top 3 Overall Females, Top 3 Master Males (40+), and Top 3 Master Females (40+).  Those receiving overall and master awards are removed from their age groups, bumping everyone else up in the age group standings. There is no double dipping.  If you qualify for overall, you cannot get another award for masters overall or your age group. Pro/Elite participants only qualify for overall awards.

Please stay for the awards ceremony if you are due an award. Unclaimed awards may be mailed if requested within 2 weeks after the event.  You must pay $9 for shipping and handling.  Go to the results of your race and click Mail next to your name to request your award.  There is no other option to get an unclaimed award.

Series Awards & Points:

Series awards are given 5 deep to all categories except male and female overall and male and female master overall, which are 3 deep.  The series points system gives the average time for each event 100 points (105 for International or Olympic Distance, 110 for 1/2 Iron Distance).  Your points will be the average time (in seconds) multiplied by 100, then divided by your time (in seconds).  If you are faster than the average time, then you will have more than 100 points.  This allows us to get a consistent points system that isn't affected by the number of participants in a particular event or by the time of the overall winner, which can vary greatly depending on who shows up.

Unlike the triathlon series where there are 3 different series of 9 races, 3 races, and 3 races, there is only 1 duathlon series consisting of all 15 Multirace.com owned events in 2008 (2/10, 3/2, 3/30, 4/20, 5/4, 5/11, 6/8, 6/22, 7/4, 7/20, 7/27, 8/24, 9/21, 10/19, 11/9).  Athletes must participate in at least 6 events in the series to qualify for the series awards, regardless of their points standings.  Each athlete's highest 6 point scores from the individual events will count towards their series total.  No bonus points are awarded for completing more than 6 races.  A 500 point bonus will be awarded once the 6th race is completed.
