* Please note that you can only be registered under one of the categories below. For example, you cannot register for Clydesdale and age group at the same time. Participants must select their category when they register. Changes cannot be made to categories once the race starts. It would not be fair to other participants if we let people change groups once the results have been posted and they had a chance to see in which category would result in a higher standing.

First Timers:
There is no category specifically for First Timers, however all First Timers should attend our pre-race clinic the day before each race at noon. There will be more time for questions and the opportunity to pre-ride the course. Once you cross the finish line the following day, find your clinic coach and you will receive a medal officially declaring you a TRIATHLETE or DUATHLETE!

Awards:
Awards are given 5 deep in all categories. Special awards will be given to the Top 3 Overall Males, Top 3 Overall Females, Top 3 Master Males (40+), and Top 3 Master Females (40+). Those receiving overall and master awards are removed from their age groups, bumping everyone else up in the age group standings. There is no double dipping. If you qualify for overall, you cannot get another award for masters overall or your age group. Pro-Elite participants only qualify for overall awards.
Series Awards & Points:
Series awards are given 5 deep to all categories except male and female overall and male and female master overall, which are 3 deep. The series points system gives the average time for each event 100 points (110 for Tri-Miami Olympic Distance and the Championship event at Tradition). Your points will be the average time (in seconds) multiplied by 100, then divided by your time (in seconds). If you are faster than the average time, then you will have more than 100 points. This allows us to get a consistent points system that isn't affected by the number of participants in a particular event or by the time of the overall winner, which can vary greatly depending on who shows up.
If you race in multiple categories throughout the series, your series points will apply to the hardest category that you raced in. The categories from hardest to easiest are: (Elite-only qualifies for Overall awards, Age Group, Clydesdale 185, Clydesdale 200, Clydesdale 225, Athena, Fat Tire).
For the Publix Family Fitness Weekend Florida Series (triathlon or duathlon), consisting of 9 events in Florida, athletes must participate in at least 4 events in the series to qualify for the series awards, regardless of their points standings. Each athlete's highest 4 point scores from the individual events will count towards their series total. No bonus points are awarded for completing more than 4 races, but since only your 4 highest point totals are used, your standings are generally better the more events that you compete in. A 500 point bonus will be awarded once the 4th race is completed.
For the Mack Cycle Key Biscayne Triathlon Trilogy Series (triathlon or duathlon), consisting of 4 events, athletes must participate in at least 3 events in the series to qualify for the series awards, regardless of their points standings. A 300 point bonus will be awarded once the 3rd race is completed.
