Categories:
* Please note that you can only be registered under one of the categories below. For example, you cannot register for Clydesdale and age group at the same time. Participants must select their category when they register. Changes cannot be made to categories once the race starts. It would not be fair to other participants if we let people change groups once the results have been posted and they had a chance to see in which category would result in a higher standing.
Pro-Elite Category:
Pro or Ameteur Elite Male and Female racers. This category always
starts in the first wave and is only eligible for Overall and Masters Overall
awards. This category is not available at most events.
Age Group Category:
Age groups for both male and female start at 10-14 and go in 5 year
increments to 80+. (10-14, 15-19, 20-24, ...., 70-74, 75-79, 80+)
By USAT rules, athletes' age groups are determined by their age on
December 31st of that year. You age up, not down. This is so that
you don't change age groups in the middle of the year.

good road or triathlon bike. It contains Male Fat Tire and Female Fat

First Timers:
There is no category specifically for First Timers, however all First Timers should attend our pre-race clinic the day before each race at noon. There will be more time for questions and the opportunity to pre-ride the course. Once you cross the finish line the following day, you will receive a medal officially declaring you a TRIATHLETE!

Awards:
Awards are given 5 deep in all categories. Special awards will be given to the Top 3 Overall Males, Top 3 Overall Females, Top 3 Master Males (40+), and Top 3 Master Females (40+). Those receiving overall and master awards are removed from their age groups, bumping everyone else up in the age group standings. There is no double dipping. If you qualify for overall, you cannot get another award for masters overall or your age group. Pro/Elite participants only qualify for overall awards.
Series Awards & Points:
Series awards are given 5 deep to all categories except male and female overall and male and female master overall, which are 3 deep. The series points system gives the average time for each event 100 points (105 for International or Olympic Distance, 110 for 1/2 Iron Distance). Your points will be the average time (in seconds) multiplied by 100, then divided by your time (in seconds). If you are faster than the average time, then you will have more than 100 points. This allows us to get a consistent points system that isn't affected by the number of participants in a particular event or by the time of the overall winner, which can vary greatly depending on who shows up.
For the Ameriprise Financial South Florida Triathlon Series presented by Downtown Bicycles, consisting of 9 multirace.com owned events (2/10, 3/2, 3/30, 4/20, 5/4, 7/4, 9/21, 10/19, 11/9), athletes must participate in at least 6 events in the series to qualify for the series awards, regardless of their points standings. Each athlete's highest 6 point scores from the individual events will count towards their series total. No bonus points are awarded for completing more than 6 races. A 500 point bonus will be awarded once the 6th race is completed.
For the Mack Cycle Key Biscayne Triathlon Trilogy Series, consisting of 3 multirace.com owned events (6/22, 7/20, 8/24), athletes must participate in all 3 events in the series to qualify for the series awards, regardless of their points standings.
