Rules:
All USAT rules are in effect. Go to http://www.usatriathlon.org for a complete list of USAT rules. Below are some of the most frequently violated rules:
Helmets are mandatory while riding the bike (BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER the race). Helmet must be buckled or strapped on. This is a DISQUALIFICATION penalty and a major safety issue. Please have your helmet on and buckled before unracking your bike and re-rack your bike before unbuckling it after the bike leg. We have had several upset participants who have been disqualified because they unbuckled right before dismounting their bikes.
Headphones are not allowed at any time.
No drafting will be allowed while on the bike. Click here to see the complete document on drafting.
Pass only on the left while on the bike.
No blocking - Stay to the Right side except when passing.
Do no cross the yellow line around corners on the bike.
No outside assistance will be allowed in the transition area.
Handlebar ends must be plugged to lessen the chance of injury. This is a DISQUALIFICATION penalty. Please ask for a plug from one of the bike shop vendors at the race or at registration if you need one.
You may not leave anything on the course (i.e. water bottles, gu wrappers, SWIM CAPS). Everything should return with you to the transition area.
For each race, athletes' age groups are determined by their age on December 31st of that year.
Series Awards & Points:
Series awards are given 5 deep to all categories except male and female overall and male and female master overall, which are 3 deep. The series points system gives the average time for each event 100 points (105 for International or Olympic Distance, 110 for 1/2 Iron Distance). Your points will be the average time (in seconds) multiplied by 100, then divided by your time (in seconds). If you are faster than the average time, then you will have more than 100 points. This allows us to get a consistent points system that isn't affected by the number of participants in a particular event or by the time of the overall winner, which can vary greatly depending on who shows up.
For the Ameriprise Financial South Florida Triathlon Series presented by Downtown Bicycles, consisting of 9 multirace.com owned events (2/10, 3/2, 3/30, 4/20, 5/4, 7/4, 9/21, 10/19, 11/9), athletes must participate in at least 6 events in the series to qualify for the series awards, regardless of their points standings. Each athlete's highest 6 point scores from the individual events will count towards their series total. No bonus points are awarded for completing more than 6 races. A 500 point bonus will be awarded once the 6th race is completed.
For the Mack Cycle Key Biscayne Triathlon Trilogy Series, consisting of 3 multirace.com owned events (6/22, 7/20, 8/24), athletes must participate in all 3 events in the series to qualify for the series awards, regardless of their points standings.
