Rules:
All USAT rules are in effect. Go to http://www.usatriathlon.org for a complete list of USAT rules. Below are some of the most frequently violated rules:
Helmets are mandatory while riding the bike (BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER the race). Helmet must be buckled or strapped on. This is a DISQUALIFICATION penalty and a major safety issue. Please have your helmet on and buckled before unracking your bike and re-rack your bike before unbuckling it after the bike leg. We have had several upset participants who have been disqualified because they unbuckled right before dismounting their bikes.
Headphones are not allowed at any time.
No drafting will be allowed while on the bike. Click here to see the complete document on drafting.
Pass only on the left while on the bike.
No blocking - Stay to the Right side except when passing.
Do no cross the yellow line around corners on the bike.
No outside assistance will be allowed in the transition area.
Handlebar ends must be plugged to lessen the chance of injury. This is a DISQUALIFICATION penalty. Please ask for a plug from one of the bike shop vendors at the race or at registration if you need one.
You may not leave anything on the course (i.e. water bottles, gu wrappers, SWIM CAPS). Everything should return with you to the transition area.
For each race, athletes' age groups are determined by their age on December 31st of that year.
Series Awards & Points:
All Multirace.com events prior to the Multirace.com Championship on
October 16th are part of the Key Biscayne Trilogy Series, the Broward
Championship Series, or the Family Fitness Weekend Series. If you are
unsure which series a race is in, click on that race on
www.multirace.com or go to
www.multirace.com/seriespackages.htm for series information.
Series awards are given 5 deep to all categories except male and female
overall and male and female master overall, which are 3 deep. The series
points system gives the average time for each event 100 points. Your
points will be the average time (in seconds) multiplied by 100, then
divided by your time (in seconds). If you are faster than the average
time, then you will have more than 100 points. This allows us to get a
consistent points system that isn’t affected by the number of
participants in a particular event or by the time of the overall winner,
which can vary greatly depending on who shows up.
If you race in multiple categories throughout the series, your series
points will apply to the hardest category that you raced in. The
categories from hardest to easiest are: (Elite-only qualifies for
Overall awards, Age Group, Clydesdale 185, Clydesdale 200, Clydesdale
225, Athena, Fat Tire).
Athletes must participate in at least 3 of the events in the series to
qualify for the series awards in that series, regardless of their points
standings. Each athlete’s highest 3 point scores from the individual
events will count towards their series total. No bonus points are
awarded for completing more than 3 races, but since only your 3 highest
point totals are used, your standings are generally better the more
events that you compete in. A 300 point bonus will be awarded once the
3rd race is completed.
2011 Championship Information
New for 2011, Multirace.com will have an end of year Championship race to crown the best triathletes in Florida! Winners in each category of the Multirace Championship event will receive a sublimated 2011 Multirace Champion jersey to commemorate their accomplishment for years to come. This race will take place on October 16, 2011 on Key Biscayne. Athletes must qualify to be able to participate in this race. Athletes must meet one of the two criteria below to qualify:
The Triathlon Championship race will be an International Distance Triathlon (1/2 mile swim, 20 mile bike, 5.2 mile run).
Once you qualify, you will be emailed a registration link that is
good for 2 weeks. If you do not register within that 2 week period, then
you must re-qualify to get into the race. Please email
info@multirace.com if you qualified and did not receive the registration
link via email.
There will also be a Sprint Triathlon and Sprint Duathlon held on the
same day as the Championship race. Athletes do not need to qualify to
register for the Sprint events. If an athlete registers for the Sprint
Triathlon and then later qualifies for the Championship race, the
athlete will be allowed to upgrade their entry to the Championship
distance for $50.
